Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Bujumbura (Burundi)

Depending on your arrival time at Bujumbura Airport, meet your driver guide and transfer to your hotel for check-in. Dinner and overnight at Keza Hotel.

Day 2: Bujumbura City Tour – Transfer to Lake Kivu

After morning breakfast, gofor Bujumbura city tour to visit the Snake and crocodile museum at le Museum Vivant, Cultural Museum, La Pierre de Stanley et Livingstone, the Islam Culture Centre and City Hall. Also, you will shortly visit Rusizi national park to see antelopes, monkeys and numerous hippos on the banks or Rusizi River.  Later transfer to Lake Kivu for overnight at Kivu Serena,

Day 3: Cross to Congo – Nyiragongo Hiking

Today wakeup early, have breakfast and cross to Congo driving straight to the starting point of Nyiragongo Volcano hike. Attend a short briefing about the tips and safety precautions of hiking and at 10:00am start off the hike to the summit of the active volcano.  Hiking is thrilling and strenuous at the same time offering you scenic views of Virunga national park and other Virungavolcanoes.  Have dinner and overnight camp at the Volcano top to experience the boiling lava at night.

Day 4: Descend  & transfer to Kigali Rwanda

Wakeup on a cup of coffee, enjoy the sunrise and hike down the volcano to meet your driver guide and transfer to Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 5: Kigali city tour & transfer to Bwindi Forest

In the early morning go for a city tour in Kigali to visit the genocide memorial site, craft shops, Kigali convention center, Inema art gallery and local markets for shopping. Have lunch in the city and later transfer to Bwindi forest via Cyanika border/Katuna border. Overnight stay at Mahogany springs Lodge/ Bakiga Lodge/ Gorilla Safari Lodge, Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge.

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trekking – Visit Batwa Pygmies community

Today, you will explore Bwindi forest, home to the highest number of world’s mountain gorillas. Wake up early, have breakfast and with your packed lunch transfer to the respective park headquarters for registration and briefing. There you will be briefed about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking and allocated a gorilla family.  At 8:00am, embark on a hike into the jungle to meet the endangered mountain gorillas. Hiking time varies depending on how far or near, the gorillas will be located that day. Spend an hour with gorillas, learn their social behaviors and enjoy this lifetime experience.  In the evening  if time allows, visit Batwa local communities to learn about the traditional forest life of Batwa pygmies.  Dinner and overnight stay at Mahogany springs Lodge/ Bakiga Lodge/ Gorilla Safari Lodge, Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to QENO – Ishasha tree climbing lions

Wakeup, have a cup of coffee, check out of the lodge and drive out of Bwindi connecting to Ishasha sector south of Queen Elizabeth National park. Look out for tree climbing lions resting lazily in the acacia trees of Ishasha, take pictures and enjoy this magical experience. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/ Katara Lodge/ Park View Safari Lodge/ Kasenyi Safari Camp.

Day 8:  Game viewing- Launch cruise& transfer to Kibale Forest

In the early morning, transfer to the open savannahs for game viewing.  Game drives offer you spectacular views of numerous animals like elephants, buffalos, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, Impalas, Eland, Topis, Waterbucks and Warthogs grazing in the park.  Return to the Lodge for late breakfast and embark on a launch cruise at Kazinga channel. The boat cruise offers you great views of different birds at the riverbank and various water animals including crocodiles, monitoring lizard and hippos among others. Later transfer to Kibale forest national park, the capital of primates in East Africa.  Overnight stay at Primates Lodge/  Ndali Lodge/ Chimpanzee Forest Camp.

Day 9: Chimpanzee trekking &Bigodi wetland walk

Having had breakfast, carry your packed lunch and transfer to Kanyanchu information center for registration andbriefing about chimpanzee trekking.  Thereafter hike into the jungle to meet your lost cousin sin their natural habit. You will be alerted by the loud shouts and laughs of chimpanzees giving you a direction to follow. Spend an hour with chimpanzees, embrace their human lie traits and enjoy this lifetime experience. In the evening, go for a nature walk in Bigodi wetland home to primates and birds.  Overnight stay at Primates Lodge/ Ndali Lodge/ Chimpanzee Forest Camp.

Day 10: Departure

This is the last day of this trip. You will wake up, have breakfast, check out and drive to Kampala for your connecting flight at Entebbe international airport.
