 Day 1: Travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Begin the day with breakfast early in the morning at your preferred hotel in Kigali and after, meet one of our experienced driver guides who will brief you on what your 3 days Rwanda chimpanzee trekking is all about. After, you will be driven towards southwestern Rwanda to Nyungwe Forest National Park about 225kms that is 4-5 hours’ drive from Kigali. Along the way, do not miss to view the spectacular hills. You will have a stopover at the royal King’s Palace in Nyanza to explore Rwanda’s unique history and culture. At Huye, you will have lunch and then proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

In the afternoon, you will embark on canopy walk which is the first of its kind in East Africa that will take you about 2 hours. This offers you a chance to see primates such as the vervet monkeys, blue monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many forest bird species.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and community tour in Nyungwe Forest

At 6:30am, you will gather at Uwinka Reception Center after breakfast to have briefing on the set safety measures for chimpanzee tracking. The actual chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe Forest National Park starts at 8:00am, lasting about 2-4 hours with opportunity to see not only chimpanzees but also other primates, bird species including Rwenzori Turaco, black and white casqued hornbill. After trekking to see chimpanzees, return to the lodge to have lunch and some rest. In the evening, you will tour the nearby community and coffee or tea plantation.
