4 days Rwanda gorilla safari takes you through a trek to view the rare mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. Volcanoes National Park is found in Ruhengeri, northwestern Rwanda and forms part of the vast Virunga Conservation Area (VCA) and ten gorilla families have been habituated and set for visitors to explore. The 4 days Rwanda gorilla safari also includes Kigali city tour, golden monkey tracking or hike to Dian Fossey tomb site. It starts and ends in Kigali.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Once you have arrived at Kigali airport, you will be driven to Volcanoes National Park by our driver guide. This will take you 2 to 3 hours to drive from Kigali to Kinigi park offices. You will check in at your preferred lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

You are expected to get up early in the morning to prepare and have breakfast then gather at Kinigi park offices for briefing on the set gorilla trekking safety measures. Note, you will trek one gorilla that will be assigned to you and a trek can take you about 2 to 6 hours depending on your speed of hiking, nature of habitat and location of these creatures. A maximum of one hour is given to you to have a face to face encounter with mountain gorillas, explore their behaviors and unique body gestures. After, you will return to relax and then in the evening, embark on community walk to Iby’iwacu cultural village for cultural exploration.

Day 3: Golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, you will gather Kinigi park offices for briefing but today on golden monkey tracking rules and regulations. This adventure can take you about 2-4 hours and after your magical encounter, you will return to relax.

Day 4: Kigali city tour

Enjoy breakfast early in the morning and after, you will check out ready to embark on return road trip to Kigali. You will embark on a short Kigali city tour where you will pay a visit to Kigali/Gisozi genocide site, craft markets and others. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home or hotel.
